David B. Magee has been advising entrepreneurs and middle-market business owners for over twenty years—first as an attorney, then as a banker and consultant.

Prior to founding D.B. Magee & Co., David was the President of Contango Capital Advisors in San Francisco. Contango is the wealth management subsidiary of Zions Bancorporation (ZION), a $5 billion market cap bank holding company.

Prior to Contango, David was CEO of Panoptic Solutions, an online developer of financial tools and educational content for financial and investment professionals. David founded Panoptic in 2000 and successfully sold it in 2004.

David is also a former Executive Director for Swiss Bank (subsequently UBS) in San Francisco. There, he was the national marketing director for the bank’s emerging wealth strategy focused on advising entrepreneurs and business owners. Concurrently, David was Head of Private Banking for Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.

Since returning to North Carolina in 2011, David has shared his knowledge and experience both as an adjunct business professor and as a volunteer mentor to area entrepreneurs through the Council for Entrepreneurial Development. In addition, he is a board member and finance committee chairman for OE Enterprises, an $8 million non-profit headquartered in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Complementing his business interests, David is a versatile and award-winning writer. His work has appeared in the Huffington Post, Baltimore Sun, Denver Post, Austin Statesman, News & Observer, Salt Lake Tribune, Triangle Business Journal and numerous other publications.

David earned his undergraduate degree in international affairs from George Washington University, a master’s in international journalism from Baylor University, and a juris doctor from Tulane Law School. He speaks three languages, is a former U.S. delegate to the United Nations Graduate Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, and is an honor graduate of the U.S.M.C. Officer Candidate School.
